Just 25km out of the shit and poverty of Hurghada is the billionaires resort and superyacht marina at El Gouna – a bit out of my price range I quickly found out!
El Gouna means Lagoon – just like my home town ‘LaGoon’ ?
It has 10 kilometres of coastline, consists of 20 islands surrounded by lagoons and has its own private airport with some pretty large and exotic aircraft parked up. There are 18 hotels, world standard golf courses, a fully equipped International hospital that can handle many medical treatments including dentistry, plastic surgery, paediatrics, ophthalmology, an intensive care unit and a decompression chamber in case of diving accidents.
Very homely for the Arab Sheiks apparently?
